![]() Making sure your Kyron is in shape before hitting the unbeaten path is important. In the world of off-roading, the Kyron has made a name for itself. In the 2009 Dakar Rally, Isidre Esteve Pujol and teammate Eric Auge Medina came 1st in a Kyron 2.7DCI. ![]() The only transmission offered on all models was the Mercedes Benz 5G-Tronic model W722-6 5-speed. There was also a 3.2 MPI engine option available, which reached up to 220 hp. ![]() The new third-generation ECU was operated on a 32-bit platform rather than the 16-bit platform found on the two previous generations of common-rail technology. The direct injection system slightly boosts fuel efficiency and power. Both the XDi200 and XDi270 used the third-generation Common Rail technology. This engine option increased the performance to 162 hp and turned out 340 N⋅m. The XDi270 diesel engine option was available on the Kyron. Additionally, the interior was not up to snuff when compared with its competitors. On paved roads, the ride was hampered by being bouncy and significant body roll could be felt while cornering. However, while it was a good workhorse, it lacked refinement and the luxury that its competitors offered, and the diesel engines were noisy. It was also a competent performer and could impressively take on rough terrain with ease. Available with both 2WD and 4WD, it was very competitively priced and well equipped even when compared with other value brand 4x4s such as the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe. Slightly bigger than Land Rover Freelander, it was a practical off-roader for those who couldn't afford some of the more expensive 4x4s. ![]() The Kyron was SsangYong's smaller 4x4, it sat right below the Rexton in their model line up.
